My son used my laptop and left it on the floor. Then he spilled COKE on it!!! Now, I'm not able to use any of the F1-F12 keys. Do you think changing the keyboard would help? I can't get it to boot.

I think you could remove the keyboard and partially disassemble it. Then use warm water under the tap to flush away the sugar. Then set upside down until dry. Worth a try if you are looking to buy a new KB anyway.

You can also use one of Computing.net's own articles here. This article includes how to clean all water soluble contaminants like Coca-Cola, coffee, and sugar residue.

Hi OtheHill

Neither was I. Google found it for me. Isn't Google amazing?

The warm water is the key with sugary drinks.

Also note, Coke is very acidic, this should be cleaned up ASAP.

I'm more than a little concerned about the not booting. Did it get as far as the motherboard?

Coke is very corrosive when it comes to printed circuits. Someone gave me a keyboard which had been coked and it had corroded a number of the copper tracks on the pc board. Had to throw it away.
