Solved laptop Dell not accepting replacement battery

June 25, 2011 at 12:29:32
Specs: Linux i686
I recently got a replacement non-dell battery, which is giving the message on boot:
"The system has detected an incorrect battery for this unit. The battery properties will not function properly."

and indeed the system seems to be not charging it. When i first charged it over night and used it, it said the battery has 54% and it'll work for 2 hours, which it did. After a second overnight charge, the computer started up on battery, but died out 5 min later.
When I connect the power cable, all the battery measures go to zero and the led light is flashing.

Is there any way of getting around this and still using the new battery?

✔ Best Answer
Dell has batteries made for them, custom, to fit their systems. There is an identifier circuit in modern batteries to keep consumers safe from charging the wrong type battery in a charging system.

You can get an external charger for the battery you just bought, or...

return the battery as incompatible or defective, if you can.
