Think I posted under wrong heading, will try here also. Thanks

Laptop crash...I shipped my IBM 380Ed to my son in Korea to have internet access and first time on internet it crashed. He is calling me from Korea for help and now I need you help to help him figure this one out. He knows very little. I sent him a copy of the win98se disk and boot disk, kept orginal here. Problem is that his so called "geek" roomie attempted to reformat disk and now he can't get anywhere. He is a pvt w/little income so if you could help us it would be appreciated. Plus he can't understand the Koreans and they don't understand him.
They attempted to boot up from boot disk, he has used fdisk, format c and who knows what else. Please if you could post simple instructions for him to get up and running with it I would appreciate it. Then I will copy and paste into an email to him and let them go from there. Thanks in advance.

Not sure from your message if this was attmepted. Power on the laptop, insert the Win98SE disk in the the CD-ROM drive and restart the computer. This will promt a clean installation of the operating system. This is probably the easiest way being that he is not very computer savvy. If this does not work, then you have a possible faulty hard drive issue and need a new one, which you will have to get from the manufacturer of the laptop.

Thank you for your input, He attempted that from what I think he said and the cd rom would not work. Those satellite phones are terrible. I have emailed him instructions on how to reformat the hard drive and start up the computer from boot disk with cd rom support. HOpefully he can get somewhere this way. I had just bought an ethernet card here and shipped it over. Can't believe things are cheaper here even with postage considering a lot of the stuff is made over there. Thanks for your input, LYN

He has to boot from a 98 floppy, then enable CD-ROM support so that CD drivers will be loaded. Then he can insert the CD, type D:\setup at the dos prompt.
