ok here is my issue. i have a 4 yr old sony vaio s360 laptop. a few weeks ago it started crashing-only when plugged into the power source. usually i will be typing something or whatever and within 20-30 mins it shuts off. no warning just goes off. on battery alone it works fine-but then i have to plug it in for 2 hrs to fully charge and cant use it when plugged bc it will crash. can someone give me some insight on this? im really frustrated

I thought maybe when the battery was low the charger isn't putting out enough voltage?

Remove the AC adapter cable, reach in the jack and see if you can wiggle it with your finger.

some new info. im finding that its crashing when i run applications eg nero, word etc on top of everything else. when i try to burn osmething i get an error message saying c drive is lo on memory and cant run the appl. i checked the c drive, whihc is an 80 gig. i have 6 gigs left. could this cause this sudden crashing where the laptop just shuts off when working online etc? also when plugged in the laptop works a bit quicker, screen a bit brighter etc. im wondering if when plugged in,on top of low gigs its creating an unstable situation. what do u think???

You need to free up some space ASAP. WinXP can't even defrag with less than 15% free space.

Run disk cleanup. Start> help & support> tools> disk cleanup.

If that doesn't free up enough space consider burning some personal files to disk.

running disk cleanup makes it crash after 15 mins or so. why?

Possible that the Laptop is overheating. You may need to use canned compressed air to blow out the vents.

Cold boot into the BIOS (setup) screens. There should be a screen with temperatures on it. Monitor the processor temps for a bit and see what is happening.

ok-it hasnt crashed in 3 days. today it did. i think i know why. i did free up mare space from 6 to about 20 gigs. that seemed to help. but it crashed today. i think it may be getting overheated is suddenly shutting off esp if im running several programs. my belkin cushtop seems to help keep it from crashing. if im burning something it is likely to crash if its not on the cushtop. this is a new phenomenon in the 4 yrs ive had this machine. why? hwo can i check the laptop temp to see f it is staying normal or going above? this concerns me. thanks all!
