Comment:

I bought a Presario 2100 in the UK off a reseller(although i think it was originally a Canadian model), i use it for image editing, music production and other random business/internet stuff.

A few weeks ago I went to show someone a tune i'd been worknig on and had it on my lap when it jsut froze, emitted an awful noise (out of it's speakers) whilst it's screen was filled with small greenish blocks.

????????

at first i jsut plain thought.. oh well.. she's dead. but the next day, all was well.

I have run a 4-pass memtest86 and there were no errors.

I know that it can happen completely on it's own but it is actually likely to happen when i accidentally bump/move/lift the laptop... and it actually seems to be located in the right rear corner (where the PSU, USB, Network and CD drive are located).

It may be a coincidence but my flashdisk 128mbUSBdrive has recently died as well.

It is definitely something that can be affected physically, as when it happened last night i lightly tapped the offending corner and the screen changed/flickered... but the screen was still frozen/green-blocky and the system crashed.

I normally just reset it and it is fine... but sometimes it tries to start, i hear the drive kick in... but then it turns itself off and then tries to start again... it is horrible to hear it going on and off and on again... so i just run it off and wait.

I have no idea what is doing it?
a damaged usb port ??(i have 2 and the top one works.. i daren't use the lower one as it has done the fun-crashing thing once before when plugge something in)
cracked ciruit board??

i have never dropped it but it may have lightly connected with a desk/knee at one time or another.

...anyway... this is a hell long question...

any ideas?

thanks
