The display on my Packard Bell iPower has suddenly decided to stop working. When it turns on, nine times out of ten I get nothing but a blank screen, even with an external monitor attached. The boot sequence is otherwise normal, runs at the same speed, and plays sound with no problem. Once in a while, the display decides to work, and when it does, I get full hardware acceleration from my 32MB Geforce Go, without any lag. I have opened up the case, but I cant see anything wrong with the graphics chips (no blackening, smells alright). I would be very grateful for any assistance on this matter.

I would also lean toward the loose cable suggestions. I, however, would also offer this:

If your video controller is on its way out and has a short or a failing IC you may also get this kind of behavior.
