Laptop bezel problem...?

Hewlett-packard Pavilion dv4-1540us note...

Specs: Windows Vista
I have a 1 year old HP laptop. It seems that the screen goes dark when it is moved. I took it to best buy and they though it was the backlight, but I am not so sure; and they said that it would cost at least $400 to fix! The picture comes in and out depending on the position of the screen. I feel that it is a loose connection. Just trying to find out if anyone thinks this is a good place to start. And I am also wondering what this would cost to be repaired by an independent professional.

If moving the screen causes the image to cut in/out I would suspect either a loose connection or broken wire in the cable that runs between base and screen. A competent technician should be able to dis-assemble it and replace that cable for a lot less than $400.

I've learned never to trust Big Business when it comes to servicing stuff. Had my car serviced at a major dealership recently and they said I had leaking head gaskets. Quoted me $4000 to pull the engine out for repairs. Got a second opinion and turned out the oil leak was from a loose inspection plug.

This could simply be a broken cable, which are coming from the display and are connected to the onboard graphics card.
Sometimes the cable has a plug on each end and sometimes, the cable is soldered.
So one can't realy say, what it may cost.
If there is a repair shop in your environment, simply ask them for the cost of repairing it.
