I recently was given a Sony Vaio PCG-747. When i switch on the Laptop everything comes on execpt for the Screen and the computer beeps 8 times.
Please go on: www.euroweb.net.mt/henri/vaiobeeps.wav to hear the sound it makes.
Also i was told that the RAM was taken out, but I do not know if it is the expansion slots ram or its proper internal RAM, i dont have any contact with the person who gave it to me to ask him.

Have you any experience with taking these things apart? I've replaced hard drives and batteries, bu that's about it. It may sound drastic, but it would help you to identify what components are present. Then you can go down the line, eliminating things until you find out where the problem is. Hop this helps.

Do you know what BIOS is in the laptop? Award and Phoenix are very common. If you can get Sony's website and check the system cinfiguration with the serial numbers it will help you. However, the beeps are in a series of 3 beeps. This has happened before to me on other systems and it was the video card. Until you know what bios is in it, we are shooting in the dark.
