hi all my mates droped of his laptop, first thing i noticed was the clocks were wrong and date times year ect (1999) i set them to correct times and dates kept the laptop pluged in as there was no battery power saying only 5%,, i then left it over night and restarted in the morning on the power lead then i disconected the power lead to take the laptop (in my bed room )every thing went off computer shut down should be working on battery power at least ... its like i had turnd off a light,i restarted and seen yet again the times date and year was all wrong.lol ,now i know the battery not chargeing BUT could there be some thing else ive missed ive been into bois and changed the settings time. date .year. ,again and again ,help .lol SAME PROBLEM

normally the pc/laptop has a small silver coin battery that saves the time/date. If the battery has run out due to age or dislodged from being dropped then it can not save the time/date.
On a normal PC the battery is obvious when you look at the motherboard.
On a laptop they in various hidden places depending on make and model.
You might find where it is by using google with keywords including the make and model and BIOS CMOS BATTERY.
The original handbook might help but probably not

any ideas were i can get a coin battery i can get big batery from ebay no probs there but do these really go so soon

CMOS batteries are very cheap and used for various things apart from computers. Get the number and shop around, might be cheaper than paying eBay delivery charges.

ok do i take out the coin battery from laptop and have alook at it take part number ect and then see what i can do also when i pull out the power cable from the back the whole system shuts down ie goes off ..def no power to computer only works when pluged in to wall socket any ideas ..lol

Yep, they are "usually" standard. Make sure you insert it the right way up.
If it won't run without mains it is usually the main battery. However, as this laptop has been dropped then I would check that the battery connections have not come adrift.

As per #1 you need the model number of the laptop and then Google should find a photo of the motherboard somewhere. It might not be a coin battery.
BUT. I've just re-read your post and the follow-ups. From what you now seem to be saying (only runs from mains) it is more likely the MAIN laptop battery that has become disconnected, or it's charging circuitry connections.
It could be that more than one thing has become dislodged or perhaps the coin battery (which affects the clock) has now dropped back into place.
