for some reason now, my battery cant seem to hold a charge. It'll always abruptly cut off after about 10-30 seconds when i unplug the power cord. is this battery ruined permanently? if so, i would like to know what causes this so i dont do the same to my other battery. thanx in advance

How old is the laptop?
Batteries do eventually wear and need replacement. They are rated for so many hours/ recharging.

When all else fails beat the $%!* out of it!!!

Sound like it's ruined.

Two important things about laptop batteries:

1) Don't leave them in the laptop if you use the power cord!
If the battery remains it's permanently loaded and unloaded and the battery can only do a certain number of load/unload cycles before it breaks.

2) Never allow the battery to be totally unloaded!
This can cause damage or even destroy the battery.

Oh, nearly forgot, better don't drop it!!!!
