I have just acquired an IBM ThinkPad and so far, the battery has been quitting on me after a short usage. Since I've never had a laptop before, when I am charging the battery, how long should I let this charge before removing the AC adapter to get the most out of it?

If you hover the mouse over the battery icon in the system tray it
should tell you how charged the battery is. If the icon isn't there
go into Control Panel/Power options and check there. Generally
speaking circuitry within the laptop should prevent the battery
from being overcharged. Batteries don't last forever and if it's not
keeping the laptop going for more than an hour then chances are
it needs replacing.

I have yet to let it charge for 24 hours to see if it's just that I am not letting the battery get charged to its fullest capacity or that it just needs replacing. If after that, it still doesn't hold a decent charge, then I will have it replaced. Thank you for all your help. Have a great day!
