If you mean you can see a bit of normal display at the beginning of the boot, even up to Windows starting to load, but it is very dim, then you have blackness where you normally have a bright screen, someone I know just went through this situation. He replaced the inverter first as well, and it was no help. The backlight itself is burnt out. On the one he has (a Sony, no more than 5 years old I think) you must remove the screen from the lid, then remove a whole bunch of very tiny phillips(cross)head screws (smaller than #00) that hold the frame around the screen, peel back some adhesive strips, then you can remove the backlight from the top of the screen area. You can make do with using tiny jewelers' straight blade screwdrivers to remove the phillips (cross)head screws (you can get them at most dollar stores if you don't have those). It looks like a tiny flourescent bulb. Obtain the backlight before you take it apart, or at least make sure someone local place has it in stock first, because you will have to take the screen assembly out of the lid. You will have to use another conventionally connected monitor until you replace the backlight, if you have one avaialable, and if you have a port for that.
