Laptop Backlight malfunction, screen went blank, still faint

March 21, 2013 at 08:11:24
Specs: Windows 7
My toshiba laptop screen went black and wont come on. I think its the back light as I plugged in an external monitor and everything worked fine. My question is can i replace the back light and do I order only the back light or the inverter set and how difficult would the repair be? Thanks

From my understanding the inverter is cheaper and more commonly goes out. You may want to ensure that the cable isn't just loose.

Not knowing the exact model, I would look up screen replacement on google for the specific one(in there it will probably tell you how to get to the ribbon, as a note many of the pieces there are delicate, so pay careful attention to instructions/warnings)

Depending on the how experienced you are I would say the inverter replacement is anywhere from mildly challenging to a bit difficult, yet not impossible.

Or what about ordering a whole new screen, they run about 60 dollars.

Thats an option too. depends on what you want to spend. It might be easier, again depending on the model.
