hey all,

I know this has nothing to do with computer hardware per se, but any ideas out there on how best to label the edges of slim cd cases so you can read what they are while they are stacked on a shelf?

I am trying to come up with a simple and cost effective way to label them, but haven't yet.

or if anyone has a place to refer to that I go look at for more info or leads or whatever, I'd sure appreciate it! :)

Thanks,
Chuck

You can't change the laws of physics. The width isn't going to get any wider.

okay, one of the things I came up with was to print out an excel spreadsheet with all the titles of each cd in their own cells having them no wider than a roll of packing tape.

Then use one of those paper cutter boards with the big guillotine-type arm on it and cut each label off. Then cut a piece of tape a little wider than each paper label and affix them that way. I know it sounds rather labor intensive, which is why I am looking for a better way.

Sabertooth, is your idea of just write right on the case itself without dealing with any labeling? yeah, that'd work too I reckon. not sure yet. have you done that and have a bunch in a row and been able to read them clearly? (I know it depends on just how clear you write on the case of course) :)

Thanks!
I love simple, basic input like that.

I have seen trays that fit into drawers where the case sits against partitions like in a file cabitet. The difference is they are inclined back about 60/70 degrees. This allows some of the top edge to show. Hope I am explaining myself. I actually intend to make some trays like that. I have see the concept in computer desks before. Look at the item called flip file tray on this page.

oh, wait. here is a really cheap and easy way to do it. it is nice to have the white label on the case to really read it much more clearly than ever just writing right on the plastic. I think anyway. :)

Thanks for your input.

the homemade wood case that my cases sit in is much like this one: http://www.target.com/Dolce-Dark-Wa...
