I'm currently running a 1,33ghz tbird and i'm searching for a board supporting DDR since my kt133a doesn't support it. I do a lot of search for the best board for the best price and i'm very confused. The problem is choosing between KT333, KT400 and NForce2 chipsets. I've heard that KT400 is useless cause any CPU is running at this FSB speed and also that DDR400 ram is slower than DDR333. Is DDR33 is really better than DDR266 ? What is the best buy regarding price/quality and thinking about futur upgradability. I can't spend more than 150$ CAN (i buy my piece from NCIX.com)

DDR 266 is all you need for a T-Bird. DDR 333 is for overclockers demanding more stability from their memory when raising FSB, because this usually give out before a CPU. It's also for user of the Athlon 2700, and 2800, running at the 333mhz FSB. The nForce2 was an appealing concept to me, I just couldn't find many boards that had nForce2, and a lot of features, like RAID, Firwire, USB 2.0, and name brands. If you found an nForce board with everything you want, I'd go with it, because they appear to be more effiecent. As for the VIA KT400, that's what I am running, it's only bad if you are running DDR400 RAM, it will perform the same as the KT333 if you use 333mhz RAM. Only Difference is, you can't use DDR400 on KT333.

Thx for your response Bill. The only thing i'm thinking about is for a futur upgrade. A KT400 board with AGP 8x and DDR400 could represent a good basis when i'll change my CPU. But it's also more expensive and your right when you say that i don't need more than DDR266 board since my CPU can't go higher. Can somebody tell me if there is a big difference between DDR266 and DDR333 in real performance like in gaming ? Also what are the good KT266 and KT333 board. Right now i'm thinking about MSI cause i run a kt7 Turbo2 and it work perfect, is this a good brand ?

The MSI boards are excellent, although they seem to fair poorly compared to Asus and SOYO in performance tests. I have built many computers with them, all with zero problem, and the price is reasonable. Do a Google search for some reviews on the different models, then make your choice on features and price. HTH
