Hello,

I have a dell inspiron 8100 notebook. Just recently the keyboard and mouse don't work correctly. The keyboard will type in a combination of upper and lower case letters. When l type the number keys they display the special characters instead, so impossible to type in numbers. The mouse has too much movement. Impossible to click on things. If l click an icon it will highlight all the icons in the window. Impossible to use.

The keyboard/mouse problem occurs at the sametime. They will either work ok together, or they won't be working at all.

I have reinstalled installed the drivers, reinstalled the O/S. But still l get this problem.

Can anyone tell me if these is any solution to this?

Thanks in advance,

Steve

Is the laptop in a docking station?

Is this the laptop keyboard/mouse or an external set? If they're an external set, have you tried a different keyboard/mouse? If it's the laptop keyboard/mouse, it could be that it's going bad.

Towards troubleshooting the issue, you might want to check to see if the behavior exists while in safe mode.

Hello,

Thanks for your reply.

The notepad is not in a docking station. I have tried using an external mouse. But the problem is still there.

The problem only normally occurs after about 4 hours of use with the computer. When l use the computer in the morning it is fine, late afternoon it will start to work incorrectly and get worse from this point. Very strange.

I was thinking about reinstalling the BIOS. Do you think this will help?

Thanks in advance,

Steve
