Solved keyboard not functioning properly

Specs: Windows 7
when I press the shift 2 key I get this "; when I should be getting this @ ; I have to press the comma/quotes key to get the @ sign

The keyboard is probably set to the wrong layout for your country. It needs to be set to "United States"

Control Panel > Region and Language
Click the Keyboards and Languages tab.
Click Change Keyboard
Under Default Input Language click the down arrow and select:
English (United States) US

Now click 'Apply', then click 'OK'.
