i'm experiencing problems with certain keys on a notebook. the part number for the keyboard is UE0283p03. i've seen prices ranging from $30 to $120 on the web.. which is insane because i dont want to put that amount of money into that old junk. anyways, i don't even think the problem is necessarily a new keyboard because all the keys seem to provide some sort of output just they are messed up. where is this keyboard map stored? motherboard? chip on the keyboard (hidden from view.. maybe on the ribbon?)? i am wanting to find a way to reprogram it.. even it if is slow and tedious. i am familiar with ANSI codes.. which is what i've been using to get around the problem keys. and no.. the 'naughty' keys are not in a row or near each other. as an example.. the "e" makes "e."
any help?

Is it possible you have set up the notebook, with an incorrect country code for its keyboard and/or screen.
If so, this would effect a small number of special character keys, such that when pressed an incorrect character appears.
Good luck - Keep us posted.

sorry for not being more precise. i am aware of various language keyboard maps and how to change the windows (and even linux) key maps... but i just reset the master boot record, repartitioned, and reformated. oh, and flashed a new bios. (note: problem was evident before i did these steps tho.) the laptop is bare.. not even system files to boot.. i use a bootable floppy. perhaps this is too indepth but i thought i'd give this forum a shot. i did try for a long time (getting close to 12+ hours) just researching this article on various knowledge bases. **somewhere** there must be a place that a default keyboard map is stored.. either on the motherboard or similar (non-harddrive). any thoughts?
