hi
here you go..( and i am hoping it can be solved easily... : (...)

so my dad's computer had a horible beeping noise at startup coming from the keyboard. the keyboard had the little leds light lighting on for a few seconds and then ... well nothing except that horrible beeping noise.
now we restarted it few times and somehow it got okfro a couple weeks (althought we didnt use it much during that time)

last night it started doing that again except this time.. restarting is pointless and no lights are lighting up on the keyboard
another keyboard on the computer with this issue won't work and the keyboard will work on another computer.

now, i have read that it could be the fuse on the motherbard.. it is true that we unplugged the keyboard while the computer was on (sorry...didnt know...) but we did it AFTer that noise started...so i am kind of lost..also when we go to windows help/peripherals.. the mouse shows up but the keyboard doesnt.(didnt try with another keyboard though yet)

now, here some more weird things..my dad tells me that he got an error windows talking about the modem i installed 2 months ago (s---ty fast sagem 800) which we are not using anymore. he is saying that it could be due to his installation...
and here is why:
well basically i got the same excat problem (i am under winxp,2.4ghz,768mb) severals time a few months ago(but restart would usually be solving it) with my keyboard And my mouse!
recently the keyboard got ok but the mouse stopped working totally, so i got a wireless one with usb plug and it is fine now.so since we got the same pb i think he is suspecting me to have done some weird stuff on his computer...
any help on that?
what did i do wrong ? (black magic maybe .. : )...)
thanks a lot for your help guys.. and sorry for the typing,.. i did try to check the post there still might be few spelling problems

Not one of my proud moments
I had a similar problem, but I know why my keyboard acted that way.
While the computer was on, I was installing a screw into a piece of H/W. The screw fell in and shorted out the mobo. End result, the keyboard port was hosed. No such thing as usb at the time, so I had to buy a brand new mobo. I agree with callum, it could be the keyboard port.

the computer is about 4/5 years old.. it could be the port i guess since , if i think about it , it started after my dad reinstalled everything in another room.. could be that he plugged it a little bit harshly.. or just tha it is olf and f---ed up?
well i am waiting for any other comments you can have and maybe if it ends up being the port you could tell me what i am supposed to do? should i change the whole motherboard??? that would suck.
thanks!

First clean out the case with a can of AIR. Then remove the modem if your not going to use it. Re-seat the memory and Graphics card if it is AGP or PCI. Reboot and see if it makes any difference. Once booted remove the Drivers for the modem. Also check for any bent pins on the keyboard plug. It might not have been plugged in all the way and caused this problem. When you put in on another PC and it worked tells me it is OK, but when you plugged it in the PC again you might have bent a pin.

I had posted a similar question about a week ago about a PC I was working on for my sister. Everything had been working fine, then the PC speaker started beeping continuously as if a key was being held down...the system would not boot beyond the BIOS screen & the keyboard was no longer functional. I struggled with it for days (tried different keyboards, gutted the system, removed/benchtested the board, etc) & after doing some googling, I found that this was a somewhat common issue (bad PS/2 controller) with the ABIT board I was working with. Apparently it just happened to surface while I was working on it! I switched over to a USB keyboard & USB mouse & now it's working fine, except that I had to sacrifice 2 USB ports that could have been used for other things.
