key sticking

January 15, 2010 at 10:50:35
Specs:
my space bar and the letter m will not function. The computer has been kept clean always. Used a product called "Blow Off" but this didn't help.

It is an Acer Aspire 5100-5022.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Laptop keyboards are a frequently replaced item and relatively inexpensive.

Search for: Acer Aspire 5100-5022 replacement keyboard or similar.

e.g. $25 plus shipping
http://www.sunvalleyus.com/AcerKeyb...

Acer doesn't seem to have Service manuals available for any of their laptop models on their web sites, but there are instructions for how to replace a keyboard on the web.
E.g.
http://www.insidemylaptop.com/takin...

In the mean time, see your User manual for your model - you can use a USB connected keyboard.

Thank you so much.

I live on a small island and called the computer store and they quoted me about $200.00!!!

I am leaving early tomorrow for the USA and have put my Acer in my carry on. Again thanks.

I take the key out and under it there is a part that pushes down into the actual switch. Use a bit if Pledge on it. The silicone in the pledge will fix it usually if is mechanical.

NOTE that the key caps on laptop keyboards are often very difficult to get back on!

Sure, I think it is worth a try if you have no other choice. I have had a keyboard for maybe 15 years that I like. Had to play with it more than a few times.
