Have DSL and like It connected all the time. Now sometimes at night may get drop cause server is doing updating. Or my windows updates happen at night and machine is rebooted. Now Is there a way when connection is dropped it will automatically reconnected? my server says I need a router If this is so is it easy to set up. Hope I have explained myself and thank you all for your time.

I recently switched from Cable to DSL because of a 1 year promo & currently have it setup as an *always on* connection like my Cable used to be.

AFAIK, you shouldn't need a router to do that, your ISP assigned modem should have a default address (192.168.0.1) that hosts your connection information console.

You should be able to log in with a default ISP designated username & password, which you should change immediately after you've established a successful connection and registered a valid user ID with them.

Call them up and they'll give you the applicable information that you need to get it done.

Well the instant work around for this is change windows update to "notify me but don't automaticly update or install them." That will keep windows from auto updating on it's own and restarting your pc automaticly which can be a good thing especially if you are in the middle of something and you don't want windows to automaticly reboot in the middle of what you are doing. That will keep your pc from losing it's connection. Also if there is a setting for your server updates to not auot restart your pc then change that too.
