I just notice the past week or so that my PC is turning itself off when it enters standby mode.
I haven't changed anything for settings in XP or on the MoBo. This is an ASUS K8N-E Deluxe.
Even simply clicking "standy" from XP causes the system to power off. This is a new one on me.... Thanks for any tips.

You should not be using Standby or Hibernate on a desktop machine. Those features where designed for laptops & are know to cause problems on desktops.
Try the following....
- right click on the desktop, click Properties, then click the Screensaver tab. Set the 'Wait' time to 10min & make sure the 'password protect' box is unchecked.
- click the 'Power' button. Set the Power Scheme to 'Home/Office'
- set 'Turn off monitor' to 20min
- set 'Turn off hard disks' to 30min
- set 'System standby' to never
- then click the 'Advanced' tab. Make sure 'prompt for password' is unchecked
- set 'when I press my power button' to 'Shut down'
- set 'when I press sleep button' to 'Do nothing'
- then click the 'Hibernate' tab. Make sure the 'Enable hibernation' box is unchecked.
- when you've completed all the above, click 'APPLY'
