Hi And MERRY XMAS to all.
This is my first posting and I hope someone can help me.
So I have a K7SEM (yes I know its not the best) with a Duron 1.3ghz on board, cooled by a coolermaster fan rated for a Athlon XP1800+.
After a bit of hassle installing XP the only way I can get the thing to run is by disabling the Temp shutdown setting in the Bios.If I set the temp at 60,65,or70deg the machine will shutdown as the welcome screen comes up. Disabled it seems o.k.
This leaves me in a quandry,Do I leave it and hope for the best?
Do I fit a cooler for a XP3000+(or suchlike)?
Do I get a new Duron?
Cheers
Reubs

Did you use thermal material? pad or paste? did you apply the thermal material properly...not too much or too little? About the size of a grain of rice applied to the core is all you need, spread thin as a piece of paper. Is the heatsink installed properly? Some people install them turned 180 degrees & it doesn't make full contact with the core.

Your temp readings may also be in error, I suggest you get it up to temp then shutdown & carefully touch the heatsink to get an idea if it's actually hot, or merely just warm. If it's only warm, you have a temp reporting error & a BIOS update may correct it.

Temps are above 70deg as shutdown at 70deg. H/S & Fan properly seated with a thin layer of thermal compound.
