What is the jumper settings to set a hdd as slave? Have a diagram perhaps? I looked on the hdd itself; makes no sense to me.

It isn't the size of the dog in the fight. It's the size of fight in the dog.

just leave the jumper off the slave drive, but make sure the master drive has its jumper.
the slave drive will default to its setting

The reason there is a diagram stuck to the drive is because not all manufacturers use the same pin confuguration for the jumpers. The pins are in pairs and pin 1 is usually the one located closest to the power connector (Usually but not always) If it is the abbreviations that are causing you confusion then post back with details of what's on the drive and the make/model.

Richaard's advice is good.

When using a slave hdd, sometimes this affects the jumper settings of the master.

Typical settings available are:-

Master
Master with slave
Slave
Cable Select - (master uses interface cable end socket, slave uses middle)

Good luck Keep us posted.

that sticker on the drive is only good when there is one. i have old drives with out stickers. i mean old as in 119 to 200mb. the manufacturer doesnt have any support for them anymore. the new drives we have have the sticker and a certain jumper placement for master or slave. you say leave the jumper of the slave drive. old drives, some you leave it off for master and others for slave. its all a pain in the ...!

Dear Mr Nova - I find it surprising you advise you are unable to find jumper settings for certain hdd's.

If you know the manufacturer and model, generally the settings can be find on the web, if not from the manufacturers then
elsewhere.

Sometimes i require this info for really old (eg 20/30meg up) hdd's and have never failed to locate, but sometimes it takes searching out.

Good luck - Keep us posted.
