I've been having problems with Javascript ever since I installed Windows. To give some background: I bought a new hard drive and installed Windows XP Home edition. During the install, jscript.dll failed to install. I ignored it and installed Windows without any other problems. Once installed I had to go and get drivers for everything to make my computer functional. I got jscript.dll online and put it in the system32 folder (like Microsoft Tech Support told me to).

So now the actual problem: I can't get anything java-related to work on IE. As an example, if I go to the firefox download page in IE, the Download button doesn't show up. Any webpage that has any kind of Javascript installed does not work in IE.

But this isn't a normal, "change the settings in IE" kind of Java problem. The Windows Activation window shows up blank, I'm now a full month past the deadline for activating as there is no way to activate and tech support seems to have no idea how to help. The most recent problem is that I can't install Adobe Photoshop, it tells me it is because of a Jscript problem.

I've searched far and wide for days trying to find a similar problem and no one seems to be experiencing the same problem I am.

So if it helps, all I did was took a laptop with a broken hard drive, put a new, factory sealed hard drive in, installed windows and manually got all the necessary drivers myself.

It's also worth noting that I can't install Windows Media Player or any other software that requires a genuine copy of Windows to run because due to this problem I can't Activate my copy of Windows. Please if anyone has any idea how to help it would be amazing. Thanks.
