Ok here's the deal.

USB on an old motherboard is too slow to waste your time with. You need USB2.0 to benefit from broadband.

You NEED to go out and buy a new PCI network card. They are GIVING them away these days as every motherboard has come with an onboard one for at least surely the last 3 years, and the new motherboards are being shipped with gigabit ethernet.

You'll pay less than $5 at any DECENT used computer parts store. If you're that broke, send me $1 and I'll mail you one via the USPS. I have a couple of the damn tihings lying around the house (assuming you live in the USA!).

Sorry!!!....I just could not resist this.

"I dont want to buy another motherboard for 70 bucks, hehe im cheap", but you can afford to fork out @ least $30 for DSL every month, you bet you are cheap.

You can get a refurb ECS or Asrock mobo for as low as $20 on Newegg.

I'll send you an Abit BH6 motherboard for $10 plus shipping! (figure $5 should cover that USPS, right?)

LOL, I'll even throw an ISA NIC in for free! (sadly, I'm not kidding, but ISA is pretty sucky, so I wouldn't use it.)

*rummaging through junk* I could also hook you up with the sweet sweet sounds of a Soundblaster 32PnP... wow, is this card big...

Oh, an AWE64! I remember when people drooled over this card...

2M Diamond Stealth S3 Virge PCI anyone? ...

ooo, ooo, AOpen AW37 ISA sound! Rock on! Crappy now AND crappy then!

Dude, remember ISA runs 12MHz bus...yes...12MHz!!!

PCI runs 33MHz bus!

Replace your burnt to heck mobo and get a PCI NIC for $8. Your broadband will than you for it.

And no, you don't have USB 2.0. LX or even BX boards like my BH6 don't have USB2.0.

I am serious about the Abit BH6 BX mobo...works fine! If you are interested, email me.

Yes, a motherboard size/weight box will ship for about 5 bucks from CA to TX via USPS.

I also use isa nic cards on everything from 386's to PII's on a regular basis to connect to cable internet and see no speed problems that aren't related to the mobo, memory and processor combination.

BTW, you do not have usb 2.0 on that board.

Heropsycho: Standard ISA runs at 8MHz.

Googlybug: If you can find one, an ISA NIC is fine. It will be only 10 Mbs, which is fast enough for any broadband connection.

I have several computers with ISA NIC's and the network works fine for ordinary use.

I dont want to fork out 70 bucks cause my pc is old, if i add a new MB prolly 6 months later some other s---s gonna get f---ed.

So i want to use what i have right now and live with it, no big deal its just thinking ahead.

Do you have the DSL modem yet? If you do then does it have a built-in router? If no then the router must be bought seperately if you want one.

DSL modems might connect three different:
1. Ethernet only
2. USB only
3. Either Ethernet or USB

It depends upon what modem you get on which of these options you have.

If the DSL modem supports an ethernet connection then you should get an ISA ethernet card with an RJ-45 connector. These cards are only capable of 10 mbs but most DSL connections are only 1 to 3 mbs anyways.

i dont have a router yet but gonna get one.

I guess ill just get a ISA card cause its only for surfing the net.

I just want to know if the ISA card will take all the bandwidth cause its old and it might not know how to use the bandwidth correctly.

Will it slow down the internet connect of the other computer that are connected to the same router, cause its an ISA card and they prolly didnt improve the technology?.

I used an ISA NIC in my system for ages, fine fro broadband, where it was slow was transferring files between pc`s on the network compared to the 100mb pci i have now, I have noticed no difference in d/l speeds with my pci card.
