Hi, I have an expensive ISA card which I would like to make on a new computer. I see that I have 2 options, and I'm wondering which is most feasible.

1) Find a new motherboard that has an ISA slot. I found some here and here.

2) Purchase an ISA to PCI converter that would attach to the motherboard OR a PCI to ISA converter that would attach to the card, and I've found one here. For this I think I would have to write a device driver.

Which option seems best and most feasible? Would either of these options likely even not work?

I would go for the motherboard solution. It is the one most likely to work, in fact there is no reason why it shouldn't.

If it's got ISA slots on the motherboard, the BIOS will be programmed to use them properly whereas the BIOS might have problems with a PCI motherboard and converters as the BIOS will no nothing of ISA.

What ISA card is it you want to use? Some ISA cards are not supported by XP at all - e.g. ISA SCSI cards.

As a general rule XP will only recognise Plug'n'Play ISA Cards, and if no XP Drivers look for Windows 2000 as they will more than likely suffice.

A motherboard solution would be the best choice, but a PCI Card would cause less problems.

The ISA card I want to use is currently being used in an XP Pro machine, so I'm not worried about XP supporting it. Thanks though.

I think I will go with the motherboard solution. Thanks everyone.
