Friends computer

Mobo is(apparently)a msi ms-6513(medion 3500)
cpu is an intel p4 2ghz northwood
vcore=1.475
fsb=100
multi=20
bus speed=400
chipset=i845D
fsb:dram=3:4

I have put in 1 stick of advance pc3200
This ram has 3 different settings
133mhz@cas2
166mhz@cas2.5
200mhz@cas3
Right now the ram is 133mhz@2.2.2.6

I am not familier with intel and all this quadpumping?

The system seems to be running ok
I am just wondering if the system could run the fsb:dram ratio @ 1:1 to make the most of the ram?

I cannot see anything in bios to change for the fsb:dram,the bios is 2yrs old.

I'm not all that familiar with P4 systems myself, but it boils down to bandwidth. With the effective FSB at 400, the CPU's bandwidth is 3200mb/sec (400 x 8), so you'd want the RAM's throughput to at least equal that.

Try the RAM at 200mhz @ cas3 & the FSB:DRAM ratio @ 1:1. That should balance things out...

Cheers jam

The sticking points seems to be the bios.
There's no way of changing settings.
I can't find any info on the mobo.
There are some search results through google but they are all German.

I didn't have time to correct myself earlier (actually had to work for a change...lol), but I'm a little unsure of the CPU:DRAM at 1:1. I was still thinking in terms of bandwidth when I wrote that, but isn't the ratio for the two bus speeds? The whole quad-pumping thing throws me off. I'm wondering if it should actually be set to 1:2? Hopefully one of the Intel guys will jump on this one...

I've never known ram to offer 3 levels of performance before.

Anyway's,there is only the option to change ram settings in bios.Can't change fsb,multi or ratio.

I am presuming the ram automatically adjusts to the systems speed?Or would it default to it's lower speed thus making the ratio 3:4?
The bios option gives you 2 choices:-
by spd & manual
it's set to 'by spd'

Does the board support 200mhz RAM bus?

What CPU:DRAM ratio settings are available?

If the RAM setting is 'by SPD', it would go with the default timing, but I'm not sure if the PC3200 bus speed would default to 200mhz or be overridden by the ratio setting?

I suppose you could experiment & then check the CPU/RAM settings using CPUZ

Not sure about the board
It's a medion 3500?Which apparently is an msi ms-6513.

Seems a moot point now as the computer has gone back to it's owner.

Thanx for your input jam.

I'm still intrigued by the ram though.
I think it is a great idea,3 designed levels of performance from the 1 stick.
