Hello my friends,
I am building a new pc for my friend, and I was trying to build the cheapest and the most reliable pc. so I went to newegg and built this system:

video Card

Motherboard

Processor

Memory

Hard Drive

Case

DVD Rom

Fan

Wireless Card

I need the fan for the case, to blow the air in, and wireless card too.

One of the things that I am worried is the case, because it is very cheap.

So is this computer worth 400$ or should I go get a name brand?

thanks...

Killer

What is this gonna be used for?

If you want a cheap mobo/CPU/HSF combo for a true budget system, look at this deal for $70:

http://shop2.outpost.com/product/4454956

But to comment on the rest of your list...

Video - cheap crap. With the money you saved by going with the above combo, you can get a better card, especially if you wanna do any gaming.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814121511

Memory - once again, with the money you saved on the combo deal, you can afford 1GB (2 x 512MB):

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145440

HDD - why spend that kinda money on a HDD w/2MB cache? WDC 80GB w/8MB cache are on sale for $30 (after rebate) at BestBuy:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=4599777&type=product&cmp=++&id=1051384460160

Case - cheap case w/crappy PSU. $16 shipping kills the deal. Shop locally & make sure to get one with a quality PSU.

DVD - I'll give ya that one, but a black DVD for a biege case?

Fan - $5 shipping? That puts the price for a single fan at $13.50! Put this money toward a decent case & you won't need the extra fan.

Wireless card - don't know exactly what you need, but there are cheaper.

ASUS A7N8X-X
Athlon XP 1800+
8.5 x 200MHz
1024MB PC3200 2.5-3-3-7
Asus A9550GE/TD 128MB
WinME/WinXP Pro SP1

killer,
Imho:
ASUS A7N8X-VM400 mbrd w/ integrated aud, vid and lan is a better bang for the buck than mbrd &vid card on your list;

Sempron OK;

512mb ram is sufficeint unless your friend will be editing video.

Case doesnt matter, but use a quality PSU: ANTEC 300watt

Wireless 802.11G NIC- Dlink, Linksys, Belkin

Check Compusa.com, BestBuy.com, CircuitCity.com for sales/rebates on Harrdrive, PSU, Wireless NIC

I think everyone is on the money here...video card crap, generic hard drive?,psu biggest single mistake, motherboard certainly you could find better...
But I have to tell you before I would do all that, I think I would send him to Dell, not for the $299 crap but you should be able to get a comparable 4700 series within this price range, and then add some ram.Well I tried it and came out $592 with 512 ram, but I still think it is a better machine...

Have you read any of the reviews on that mobo?

Pretty much everyone says "It's works great but"...

The LAN does not work.
The RMA process is great (wonderful feature)
It likes to reboot under load.
Etc

Seems odd how people justify faulty hardware but acting like major issue are no big deal.

I would pick again,

The system is unworthy $400.

Bad hard drive, bad mainboard (which is the major mistake in system stability).

BTW, not only newegg has good price!

Hey guys, thank you very much for taking time and helping me out. SO you all say that I could get a better computer for the same price. I will look over some of Jam's suggestions. THe computer is for little gaming and internet surfing.

Thanks... I don't like dell, by the way :-)
