OS: don't know
CPU/Ram: Pentium Socket 7, 32MB
Comment:

I just received this PC and have not been able to get it to POST. I get no beep (don't know where to connect the speaker cable on mobo); no video (monitor light green); and neither the HDD or FDD spins only the fan. I tested the power supply and it tests good. Is this mobo dead? Other than removing all the components except monitor, video card and memory is there another test I can perform?

Could be a memory problem if there is no video.

Try removing the stick/s and refitting.

Maybe a jumper needs to be fitted or moved.

There is usually a cluster of pins where the Power, Speaker, Reset, HDD light and other leads connect.

The BIOS batter y may be dead if it's been out of use for a while.

If you know the manufacturer there may be some help in their web site. Or ask at a local dealer, the Technicians sometimes keep old user manuals which show the jumper settings etc.

its hard to say from your description but simple things first. if you dont have onboard sound then you wont plug in your speaker at all. but if you are talking about the system speaker there is a cluster of led jumpers on the mobo and most are marked so with a magnifying glass you find SPK in a 4 pin bracket among the cluster and the red is on the number 1 pin and the black on number 4 pin. then when you boot if there is no sound at all check the cpu first. if there are beeps find the mobo beep code.

If the memory is in the wrong slot (needs to be in zero or one) or it is not seated properly, then you wont even get a POST. A dead bios battery would not do that. A fried bios would. Also a dead cpu. Or bad memory chip/stick... But it would have to be REALLY bad. I have had memory sticks that won't even run an OS test perfectly in POST.

Thanks All,

I followed your leads and found that after replacing the CPU with a known good one the computer came to life. I found the SPK pin.

Again Thanks,
