OS: Windows XP SP2
CPU/Ram: 1.8 GHz/PC3200 512 MB DDR
Product: AMD Sempron 3100+
Comment:

Someone recently gave me one stick of 256MB PC2100. The machine I plan on sticking it in has a free slot with one slot already having one stick of 512MB PC3200. I know if stick it in that my DDR RAM will run at 266 MHz instead of 400. I sometimes run heavy applications like Adobe After Effects and Premier and I don't know if the benefits of having that extra 256 MB will outweigh the decrease in speed. My question is should I put in the PC2100? Would their be a noticeable performance increase or decrease?

well good news is you added more meory the bad news is it will decrease your preformance and since you are running programs that use preformance then it would be a bad idea.

dido...unless your page file is like 500 megs all the time i think the preformace would be better w/o the 256

back up your back up...i just lost 300 gigs of "back up" and i don't have the originals for a lot of it.
