I have been having more and more problems with my computer over the past 6 months. Standby doesn't work anymore, everything resumes except the monitor. Hibernate does work. I can't let the computer turn off the monitor after so many minutes of inactivity because it won't come back on (no signal). Mysterious BSOD's when logging off a user or shutting down the computer. Numerous clean installs of the OS have not solved any problems. Video card (GeForce 7600GT) drivers are up to date.

From what I've been able to read, these problems are indicative of a poor power supply (Fortron Sparkle ATX-400PN). Is there an expert out there who can give me a yeah or nay as to replacing the power supply? Thanks in advance to anyone taking the time to read this and post a reply.

Fortron/Sparkle make excellent PSUs but there's always the possibility that you got a lemon.

Standby & Hibernate are designed for notebook/laptop use, not desktops. They should both be disabled.

The BSOD should give you a clue as to what the problem is. What error messages are you getting?

Have you tested the RAM using memtest86?

When you test the RAM, let the test run overnight.

On top of the memory tests, be sure all fans are working and not obstructed by dust. Clean but don't vacuum around the motherboard and make sure the CPU heatsink fins aren't clogged as well. Once clean, reseat memory. I would also run disk cleanup and disk defrag then chkdsk on the hard drive.
