Subject: Is this a good video card? OS: Windows XP Pro SP1 (all u CPU/Ram: 1.7ghz Celeron, 128mb

Comment: Is this: http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=310987&pfp=BROWSE a good video card? I need PCI because I do not have AGP (and no I'm not getting a new mobo!). Also, I have a very crappy hp pavilion 503n with 128mb of ram, and onboard intel 845gl vid card w/ 64mb of ram, an onboard AC'97 sound card, and a 1.7ghz celeron cpu. If I upgrade it to 1gb of ram, a VisionTek Xtasy 9200 256mb PCI vid card, a Turtle Beach Catalina sound card, and a 2.0ghz celeron, how do u think ut2k4 will preform if i upgrade all this? BTW, all these upgrades max it out and the 2ghz celeron is the best it can handle. Everything is always funny at first, until someone gets hurt, and then it's just hilarious!

Reply: (edit)Get a new board w/AGP & start from scratch...you're throwing your money down a hole. And stick with your original thread!

Reply: (edit) My P3 750MHZ came with a Biostar M6TWG M.B. which also has no AGP slot :-( , it had intergrated i810 graphics and intergrated AC97 sound .I was having alot of probs with the sound ,so I installed a PCI sound card, I also installed an ATI RADEON PCI Graphics card. I know AGP is faster ,however Iam not a hard core gamer ,and the differance the graphics card made to the performance of my system was ten fold ! Good Luck Nick

Reply: (edit)First off by upgrading a celeron 1.7 to a celeron 2.0 gig really is not gaining anything (Don't waste your money). Asus Mobo $60 http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=240303 AMD CPU $68 http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=80165-R Then you would have AGP 8X video card capabilities. Granted this isn't top of the line stuff here, but it's a good system. When all else fails, beat the %*#$! out of it!!!

Reply: (edit)"Upgrading" any processor to celeron is throwing your money away. Why won't you upgrade your motherboard?

Reply: (edit)Because, I have an hp pavilion 503n, which has a very strange uATX intel 845GL mobo and I cant find a uATX mobo that has AGP 8x. If som1 could locate a mobo like that, it would be great. If you do find a mobo like that, it must be p4 not amd! dont ask i have my reasons! Everything is always funny at first, until someone gets hurt, and then it's just hilarious!

Reply: (edit)Ok, If you don't want AMD that's fine (I certainly don't want to open yet another debate on this forum, we all have are own reasons). But to try and upgrade that HP in my opinion really is a waste of time, as well as money in some cases (PCI video card). If you're looking to upgrade, and can afford it, I would use what parts you can from the HP and build new. If you can't afford it, save your money until you can. That's my best advice. When all else fails, beat the %*#$! out of it!!!

Reply: (edit)Dude just get a new board, processor, video card (NVIDIA would be best), and spend $30 to bur a new case with a 400 watt power supply. Only $30 more.

Reply: (edit)Just keep the old system intact as a backup system and get a standard case/PSupply. Build a new system. Old components will only hold you back.

Reply: (edit)Personally, I would add an inexpensive PCI card if the computer has to get you by for a while. I certainly wouldn't replace a Celeron with another Celeron. Add a $14 PCI sound card, and you'll free up some system resources. RAM is inexpensive and can make a big difference - go cheapo though. As long as you choose software titles suitable for that computer, it could last for many years. Keep in mind that 1.7mhz processors were first released in 2001, so technologically your computer is three years old. Best Wishes, Bob

Reply: (edit)I just found out that my computer can actually handle the IntelŪ PentiumŪ 4 Processor Northwood 2.4GHz, 400MHz FSB, Socket 478 CPU, so I think I will get this one, not the Celeron. My current specs are: Ram: 384mb PC2100 DDR SDRAM Video card: VisionTek Xtasy 9200 SE 128mb PCI CPU: 1.7ghz Celeron Sound card: AC'97 on-board HD: 40gb, unknown rpm Motherboard: Intel 845GL Chipset: Intel 845GL If I upgrade it to this: Ram: 1gb PC2100 DDR SDRAM Video card: VisionTek Xtasy 9200 256mb PCI CPU: IntelŪ PentiumŪ 4 Processor Northwood 2.4GHz, 400MHz FSB, Socket 478 Sound card: Turtle Beach Catalina HD: 40gb, unknown rpm Motherboard: Intel 845GL Chipset: Intel 845GL How do you think Unreal Tournament 2004 will preform with the upgraded specs rather then my current specs? Any input will be appreciated. BTW, please awnser the UT2004 question if you can. Everything is always funny at first, until someone gets hurt, and then it's just hilarious!
