If I had the money, I'd get dual Athlon MPs or wait for the Hammer. Water cooling would also be on the list.

I'd do RAID, but not 0. I'd probably get 4 120Gb'ers and do 5. Otherwise I'd get 2 bigger ones and do 1. Remember that in 1 or 5, any one drive can fail and your data is fine, but in 0, if either drive fails, you're in trouble.

Yea, sounds like you're bragging about what a great system you're gonna build. Bottom line is, it's your money. Personally, I won't waste mine on leading edge technology...nor would I ever buy a P4. The GeForce FX is gonna be expensive...$300 or more when it 1st comes out. What's it gonna be worth in 6 months? Same with the P4 3.06...it's selling for $643 right now at Pricewatch. That's crazy! I can build an entire XP system for $643!! Like I said though...it's your money....

I was just reading about the FX card...it's due out in Feb 2003 & estimated cost is $360. It will need a 12v plug in from the PSU & the PCI slot directly beneath it will need to be filled a special slot fan to keep it cool.

Ok thanks for all your replys, only posting as I am a big gamer and I want the best out of my system and I want it to last a while, I am just tired of upgrading all the time, my current CPU is a Athlon XP 2100+, yes I much prefer the Athlon to to the P4, I am also sick of the heat that they produce, and if my HSF should fail P4 are fail safe so that they don't end up melting unlike all of amd's chips

How are P4s safer than Athlons? If you get a good motherboard, you can set an emergency shutdown temperature.

I would strongly suggest a better storage solution, though, unless you really don't care about your data.

Another thing to think about if you just have money to spend is a DVD burner. DVDs are the way of the future.

The clear case? I hace read bad stuff about them giving off RF interference to cordless telephone, TV, radio & cell phone reception because the plastic case gives no metal sheilding around the componants of your computer. You may want to just go with a window in the side of a good case. Also, I have read the plastic cases do not cool very well as compared to an aluminum case because the plastic is not a good heat conductor and acts more as an insulator.
This may be wrong, but it is what I have read and it is not from personal experience.
