Reply: (edit)the 9600pro is a better card than the fx5700 if you want something on par with the 9600pro go for the fx5700ultra or fx5800ultra. as for 9800se yes you might be able to softmod it but is it worth the risk? Reply: (edit)good question but i heard even if you cant softmod the radeon 9800 se it still peforms as well as a radeon 9600 pro. also thing is the geforce fx 5700 ultra and geforce fx 5800 are out of my price range. i would really like to get a nvidia card because im kind getting sick of ati. so the geforce fx 5700 isnt as good as a radeon 9600 pro but will it play new games at say medium settings 800+600 res? games like far cry, painkiller, doom 3 and half life 2?

Reply: (edit)Just rereading some benchmarks it seems the Ti4200, fx5700 and 9800se are pretty much very similair when it comes to speed reading this article on toms hardawre shows that sometimes either of the cards come in first place depends what game and what settings you use http://www20.graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20031229/index.html my Ti is bloody brillaint but i would be dissapointed if i paid for a brand spanking new card for it to perform marginely better or the same as my current card! Reply: (edit)well then put the ti in your main pc you will probably only see small decrease in performace from your old 9600pro, i know of people who have upgraded from a ti4200 to a 9600pro and were pretty dissapointed at the marginal increase in performance. Reply: (edit)in order to run in dual channel the minimum requirements are that they are of the same size ie both 256 or both 512, really you want them to be the same brand or atleast have the same amount of memory chips, so no a stick of 512 and 256 will not run in dual channel mode anyway dual channel is a load of boll*cks it will give you very very minor performace gains especially on a socket a system Q-TEC 550 Watt PSU MSI VIA KT4AV-L 2800+ Barton 512 DDR333 GeForce4 Ti 4200 128Mb Aero 7 Lite 80Gb Samsung ATA133 HDD 120Gb WD ATA100 HDD LiteOn LDW-851S LiteOn LTR-52246S

Reply: (edit)ok thanks a bunch rockybalboa usally on other forums my questions dont get answered but here you helped me like you got paid for it. so what if i dont use dual channel mode then i would be ok if i got the 256 meg and a diff brand? still dont know about the vid card im usally not this dependent on peoples opinions but graphics cards can really mess up a computer if you dont get the right ones

Reply: (edit)i have very little experience of dual channel but from what i know i highly doubt you damaged your system in any way, im pretty sure it would just have not worked, ok firstly tell me what system you have your cpu for example then i can tell you what the best options are for you to upgrade rather than guessing that an extra stick of memory will help increase performance, going from 512 to 768 will do very little unless you are video editing or using cad, or using a high end graphics card on full settings in for example games such as far cry, i get pissed off on forums when people dont answer my questions aswell so i try and help out others as much as possible thats all, i suggest you post your pc specs and tell me what it is you want to do with the system then i can tell you what card and how much memory you should upgrade to Q-TEC 550 Watt PSU MSI VIA KT4AV-L 2800+ Barton 512 DDR333 GeForce4 Ti 4200 128Mb Aero 7 Lite 80Gb Samsung ATA133 HDD 120Gb WD ATA100 HDD LiteOn LDW-851S LiteOn LTR-52246S
