I'm having one hell of a time with this computer.
I had quite a bit of trouble installing Win XP, but after slipstreaming SP2 like the kind folks at the XP forum said, at least now XP is installed fine.
But when I install games, I get lots of "corrupted file" errors. I can't even run 3DMark without running into a corrupted texture file right in the middle of the benchmark. Also, Windows will occasionally give me a BSOD while starting up (though that's rare). Now, I ran the complete checkdisk (you know, the one that completely checks the disk while Windows is still in "Low Resolution Mode") and it says that my hard drive is completely fine.
Is it? I really have no clue, but you guys might. :)

Too many corrupted files for no apparent reason is sign that your hard disk is misbehaving.
BoSDs and write errors also pop up on an overclocked systems, but other wise I have seen this on hard disks that are about to die, though scandisk wont report errors.
Is the hard disk making screeching noises of late, when it is reading or writing data? (the noise and the hard disk activity light occuring together) ?

Have you run any memory testing progs such as memtest86. Test each stick of ram separately then together.
I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

have you tried a repair install? Sounds like some corrupt files that can be repaired.
Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

If chkdsk runs without errors, I would say your hard drive is ok.
I agree with Richard, that you should check your memory.Memory tests
Memtest has an ISO for creating a CD

or

I tried memtest86 and got no errors.
The hard drive's not making any weird noises or anything like that.

Ok, so we have established that the Memory is Ok.
Before you decide on other hardware, try a XP reinstall for whatever it is worth.
If problems continue, then its time to take your hard disk and try it on another machine and see if it throws any read errors / corrupt files.
Kailas ShastryFried PSU => my 2000+ XP, mobo, mouse and 9600XT are also fied. Damn those light-weight high wattage PSUs!
