Is RAID 0 (Striping) worth it?

Hi,
I am thinking of setting up RAID 0 on my upcoming computer to boost up the speed. However I have some worries. On tech-report.com there is a guide on RAID (http://www.tech-report.com/reviews/2001q2/realraid/index.x?pg=1), it says that if you set up two HDs in RAID 0 you will gain significant boost but yet you will loose your MTTF (Mean Time Between Failures). According to them the lifespan of your HDs will go down to 2-3 years! Is this true? I wanted to build a computer that would last me much longer then 3 years.
Also, If I would consider to do RAID what would be a perfect hard drive to use, somethign not too expensive since I have to get two of them?

raid 0 is worth the extra speed if your doing some major hard drive accessing such as video editing. For a game PC it may increase performance some but not a huge deal.
Remember in a stripe set if one drive dies you lose it all!
If your going to use RAID 0 I would recomend backing up everyweek to another device, or setting up a raid 0/mirror. Yes now thats 3-4 hard drives.
With some of todays HD's like the ATA100/ATA133 drives with 8MB cashe on the drive I really dont think its worth it unless your setting up a file server or doing some major HD accessing.
Summary: Hopefully I can set the record straight. Raid0 is stripping without parity. This is not "It takes a ten byte file and splits it up - 5 bytes on each of two disks" Stripping two drives together means ...
Summary: I agree with doc 100 % I have run this setup when GGbyte first released their first boards with IDE raid. Using 2 x 40 gig seagates with great results. Same as doc I rebuilt my personal rig with 2 rap...
Summary: Raid 0+1 requires a minimum of 4 drives. For best result they need to be identical in size and peformance. I have seen benchmarks that indicate that Raid 0+1 is generally slower than Raid 0 except for...
