I have a Microsoft Optical mouse, about 6 years old. Most of the time, it works fine, but occasionaly, like now, I have to click 2-3 times to go to a link. I'll have trouble with it for a couple of days, then it returns to working properly.

I'm wondering if it's the mouse, or Internet Explorer, because I've noticed that when I mouse over the link, it takes a few for the mouse cursor to turn into the hand right away.

Anyone have any suggetions?

It's probably not the mouse.

If not the mouse, what is it?

One possibility is your system is being loaded down by malware or just too much stuff running. Check the msconfig startup tab. Use the following sites for help on determining unnecessary and malware software.

Give this page a read Gwen --

Also, bring up task manager with Ctrl+Alt+Del and let us know how many processes are running (lower left corner).

I think I found the culprit - Adobe Reader was one of the startup processes. I checked it out on the Internet. The general consensus is that it's completely unnecessary.

I disabled it in startup and it appears as though any problems I was having are gone.

Thanks, everyone.
