Sometimes this weird white line appears at the bottom of my screen that shakes and goes up and down and etc. It usually appears on only white backgrounds. It didn't happen on another monitor I had. Strange how this started happening when I upgraded my Celeron to a P3. Is my monitor dying? I thought they were supposed to last like 20 years I've only had this for 5. It's a Compaq monitor BTW. I don't want to use my other monitor it's too dark.

I don't know who told you THAT, but the life of your monitor "depends"

If it's used a LOT, like 24/7 in a dispatch center, it will probably not suffer any conponent failures, because it won't be subjected to power on/off surge. It WILL however, wear out the filament/ cathode in the CRT, and become dim

It depends on how much it is used, how much the brightness and contrast is turned up, and so on, and if you are in an area with poor power regulation, subject to power outages, brownouts, or surges caused by things like lightning storms, it 'ain't a gonna last as long.

It will either be a defective monitor or video card. Swapping is the only way to determine which it is.

Damn it, monitors suck then. They should last forever. I'm not paying $150 for a new one.

Who made that up? Be glad you got 5 years.

You can avoid many of these Windows problems with Linux. Linspire eases the transition for new users
