i recently added a maxtor 40GB ultra ATA/133 EIDE hard drive to my system. It worked fine for a couple weeks until about a day ago when i did not see the drive listed in "My Computer". I restarted only find a "operating system not found" message, no detected hard drives in the bios, and a ticking sound from one of the hard drives. I diconnected the new hard drive and the system booted normally. Is my add-on hard drive dead?

if your new hard drive is making that ticking noise, then that means its bad
however, if you get lucky, you can still get it to work, what kind the hard drive you have??

hello
I have a similar problem I've just bdought a
maxtor 40 gb and the bios recognises it but
when I boot up or go to fdisk it says no fixed drives present I wonder if this is
a common fault with maxtor as I said in the
bios it sees the hard drive as 64k and the
number of gigabites.but it will not boot up
Tom
