Hi All,
I have Compaq Presario 2339EA Laptop. I bought it just over an year ago and it had been working very fine since then. This morning I left mp3 songs on and left my room. After about 2 hrs when I turned back to it I found my laptop frozen (only COMPAQ logo on the screen) and I was unable to do anything. I reboot it and now its giving me the following message.
"PXE-E61 Media test failure check cable"
and then screen changes and new message
"Operating system not found"
I have read several mails on this forum and made sure that boot sequence is right ie. Hard drive, CD-ROM, Removeable Drive and then LAN
Also, when I go to BIOS setup, it tells me that there is no Hard drive present! :(
I changed the boot sequence such that it boots from the CD-ROM and put the XP-CD to do the new installation from the begining. It tries to read the CD but does nothing more. I still get the same blank screen with message
"PXE-E61 Media test failure check cable"
Is my HD completly dead. Are there any tricks I can try out? Your help will be highly appreciated. Thank you!
Usman

Since your Bios doesn't detect your drive, this sounds like a cable connection problem within your computer, if not a hard disk failure. Does the warranty still exist for your computer? If so, you should have it looked at. Laptops are pretty difficult to service and if it is still under warranty you wouldn't want to void it by self-servicing. Hope this helps.

Presario hard drives are usually user-serviceable under one of the hatches on the base. Start by removing the drive & see if you get the same error - at the same time you can check the model of hard drive & download the appropriate hard drive diagnostic tool from the manufacturer's web-site - re-install the drive & run the diagnostic from floppy - see what results you get.

Thanks Raymond and Johnr. Warranaty period for my notebook is already over, however, I am going to remove the HD and install it again and will test it with some diagnostic tool. cheers!
