Greetings,

I recently noticed that the noise my computer is making with his fans is too much. I downloaded and installed "speedfan" and now I have direct control over the percentage of the fan speed. My readings are the following(in idle):

Temp1: 43C;
Temp2: 40C;
Temp3: 25C;
HD0: 43C;
Temp1: 40C;
Core: 37C;
Core: 54C;
Ambient:0C;(I assume I don't have a sensor?)

These readings are made with both fans at 100%. I notice a significant reduction of the noise if I lower them both to 80%, but because my computer is working all the time (uTorrent etc..) I didn't knew weather to leave 'em be and stand the noise or lower them to 80% and have some peace and quiet.

Best Regards

Deimos

"I downloaded and installed "speedfan""

Why aren't you using ASUS PC PROBE?

I did as you said and downloaded & installed ASUS PC PROBE, as soon as I started it it started trowing warnings at me:

"There are some warnings: Vcore voltage"
Here's the status:

Sensor Name|Nominal Value|Current Value|Threshold
Vcore |1.750 - 1.450|1.31 |10%

Is this serious and WHAT SHOULD I DO?!

Your vcore setting (1.31v) is correct for an X2 5200+. Do nothing. If the warning bothers you, disable it.

Are you using Probe II version 1.04.08?

If your fan(s) have suddenly become noisy, they might be on the road to failure. I suggest replacing any noisy fans.
Do a search for quiet fans and spend a little more for the ones with good bearings.

I'll do what you say aegis, a fan can't be that expensive anyway. ;)

All fans are not created equal. Even fans of the same diameter may have very different CFM and db(noise) specs. In the case of HS fans it is important to replace with a fan of equivilent cooling capacity.

Have the noise levels changed recently or are you just now aware of them? Some coolers are naturally noisy.

Post the brand and model of your HS/fan unit, if you know it.

In addition to using ASUS PC PROBE, I would check temperatures in the BIOS, at least for the cpu. I'm not sure how reliable ASUS PC PROBE is.

I've had really good luck with GlobalWin fans that use nanometer ceramic bearings rather than the usual sleeve or ball bearings.

I really do not know anything about fans, all I can tell you is that my CPU fan is the one that came with the CPU (On the signature).
What fans can you recommend me? I am willing to spend around 40$ in a fan.

BTW: Is that "road to failure" very long or do I have to keep my computer off until the new fan comes along?

If the fan quits entirely the CPU should throttle down or shutoff completely to protect itself.

You didn't answer my question about the noise.

Was your system quieter at one time? or did it always sound like that & you (for whatever reason) have become more aware of it? Do you regularly clean the dust from your case?

There doesn't appear to be a problem with your temps...it would be nice to know what most of them are, but the CPU temps look OK. I'm guessing the 54C core is the one the system's using? What did you do just before getting those numbers?

First of all, I'm sorry I've taken so long to reply but I've been off the Internet the last few days.

Yes, the system was once quieter, It suddenly became noisier, so I opened the case and took some time clearing the dust on both the CPU and Graphics Card fan (There was so much dust I was impressed how the fans could actually spin!). I started the computer once more and it was quieter and less hot, but still noisier than it was before. So I assume there is something wrong with my fans...what should I do to prevent damage?

Note:
The noise the fans made before was about 20% less than what they do now, because to get the same noise from before I have to lower my fan's speed to about 80%

The CPU fan is the hard one to replace as a fan only replacement. There are many different setups out there. The case fans are reletively inexpensive and there are only a few sizes. Better fan vendors give the CFMs and the Db. of their fans. The lower the Db. rating the quieter. The scale used is like the reichter scale for earthquakes. Double the number is not double the intensity of the quake. I can't recall the formula for Db. but it works the same way. Anyway, fans are sold by the diameter of the blade in millimeters. There are 25.4mm/inch. You can figure out what size fan you hve using that info. The CFM of case fans isn't as critical as the CPU cooler fan. Generally speaking the CPU fan is constructed better than some case fans so I would look at those first. The PSU fan/s can also generate much noise. Did you blow out the PSU from both ends?

The fans might be noisier if they are spinning faster to maintain the same temperature. Have you compared those readings ? The fans could be spinning faster because of more heat being generated in the case from higher temperatures in the room, thermal paste not working as effectively, and so on.

Do CPU fans come with coolers? I mean, do they cool down the air before forcing it to pass trough the CPU? (<- This is probably a stupid question)
So I'll check out CPU fans first, ok, are there any specific brands you think will do the job better?
How much should I spend on the CPU fan?

Aftermarket heatsinks come with a fan attached. They are designed as a unit. The normal specs are based on what processor the cooler will work on. Below are some examples.

If you intend to buy a new HS/fan unit I suggest you start a new thread in the hardware forum asking for suggestions based on your processor and low noise levels, if that is a priority.
