Solved is it possible to install a disk drive in a new notebook?

Specs: Windows 8
it is a gateway NE52214u, it looks like it would have a drive. but upon looking at the box I found that under optical drive it said N/A. so can an internal one be installed?

my guess would probably be a no to that question.but if you need one you could use an external drive via usb connection

To all intents and purposes; No.

Buy an external/USB disc drive.

There's a small possibility that if this model was originally fitted with a disc drive, then you may be able to remove the blanking plate and fit one (if it exists, and is designed to be removed).
However, it would also be dependent on the original motherboard connecting socket being present. Also, is there a fixing point for the new drive, and what type of fixing bracket/attachment would be required to fit it into the casing.
..... Not to mention any guarantees would be invalidated, if the laptop is still under warranty.

As I said; 'No'. ;o)

The specification does show there isn't one included/installed… So the suggestions above to use an external usb unit is the logical path…

Quite why they didn't include/install one…?

Their instructions re' making recovery media (off the system) advises USB-sticks at least; or an external burner… No mention at all re' using an internal player/burner.
