Solved is it possible to format(erase) a hard drive from bios?

Specs: ubuntu 12.4, pentium 4: 2.6Ghz cpu 1gig ram.
I would like to format (erase) a hard drive from the bios
is this possible?
I'm trying to install ubuntu 12.4 again but this
time when I get to name and password I type
a name, then when I type a password the first
letter I type fills the box automatically and won't let me proceed.
So I thought maybe doing a clean sweep of the HD may allow me to install.

✔ Best Answer
No, but there are many bootable CDs that will do the job, for example GParted Live.

You don't need to erase anything to install Ubuntu. Boot to the live cd and see if the keyboard works correctly first. Then consider using safe mode boot to cd and see if you can install it. The password being filled is the problem. Some keyboard issue.

Could be a bad download or burn of the cd also. Just for grins could try a different keyboard.

Hang up and live.
