My PSU fan (or rather, the fan that is moving air out of the cabinet, positioned in the PSU) is making a lot of noise, so I was thinking "Why don't I just get rid of that fan", since my cabinet is always opened up anyways.
I can see a black and a red wire coming out from the fan, so I was thinking about just cutting one of them (having turned off the computer and unplugging the power chord, of course)... If I one day decided to close the cabinet again I could just re-connect the cut cable.
My only concern is that the fan might also be cooling off the Power supply, but I don't know it it needs cooling at all.
Is this possible without destroying my mobo or something else?

Just put a quiter fan in your PSU to replace the one that is noisy. Some power supply's are noisy because of the fan inluded. It's just a matter of cutting wires and crimping or soldering them together. No big deal at all. A quite fan can go a long way. Of course, doing this voids any warranty on your PSU. Good Luck.

Ok Judge, I believe you. Mind you, I just talked to a guy who said that he had done it without problems, but I thought I'd play it safe so I have found another solution: Simply rewiring the cables of the PSU's fan so that the fan is now getting 7v in stead of 12v, what a difference in terms of noise...
I recently did the same to the CPU cooler, again with great success, the temp of the cpu only went up 2-4 degrees, it is now 41 degrees Celsius, about 106 fahrenheit.
Highly recommended plus it saves you a lot of money, in stead of going out and buying expensive new fans. My total expenses were $3 for a molex adapter.
