Need help please! My cdrom in my hp 6448 just DIED! Are they easy to replace? And where is the best place to get one?

I am NOT technical and I hope it is an idiot proof task for me. :-)

Thanks so much!!

I like to boot to live media, since your cd is bad you may not be able to but for grins how about you try to boot to the cd to a bootable cd. Or boot to a bootable usb OS and see if it sees the drive.

I can't seem to find that model.

They usually can be replaced. I'd look at the HP site first. Be warned of sticker shock. Get the replacement part number and then look online stores.

They tend to be either real easy or kind of difficult. The easy ones may have only a few screws and will slide out and are made to be quick changed. The others you have to take it all apart to get at it. Small connectors and screws are difficult to handle and replace. All of it is fragile.

Look at yours in the area of the cd/dvd also see online at hp for their service info. They may say exactly the steps needed.

Might end up buying a replacement external drive too.
