Is a graphics card and a video card and a video adapter and a graphics accelerator card and a display adapter the same thing?

Are they the same, Yep.

intel P4 3.0ghz HTT
ATI 9800 Pro AGP 8x
2 x 1gb Corsair DDR400
2 x 250gb HDD

One thing to note. There are add in Graphics cards and integrated Graphics chip sets. They may have similar sounding model numbers but they are different. Generally speaking, add in cards will perform better than integrated versions.

The term CARD is frequently misused. It's only a CARD if the video chipset is on a physical card that is removable that is installed in a slot on the mboard. If it's onboard video - video built into the mboard - IT'S NOT A CARD !
Most laptops have onboard video, so most laptops DO NOT have a video CARD.
Similar applies to other hardware devices built into the mboard - sound, networking adapter, etc., etc.
