ive got some curtial ballistix 2X 1gb 5300 ram sticks for my pc and ime considering weather to get 1 more stick to give me 3gb but with my soon to be built 2.66 quad core intel 12mb cache system will it be nececerry?

Depends on what you're primarily using the system for & which OS you're gonna be running. Will it be XP or Vista? Do you run memory intensive apps?
Regardless, if you intend to add more RAM to the 2 x 1GB you aleady have, you should be adding another pair so that you maintain dual channel mode. You should be getting either 2 x 512MB or 2 x 1GB.
