Hi, i knowthis error is highly commented in other topics, but in my case the error appears at installing windows xp, before accepting the agree (F8) and even before formatting hd, I think the fault is the memory: DDR PC3200 (400mhz) and the mobo (an old foxconn) aparently doesn't support the speed of the memory. Are you agree that THIS is the cause of the problem? maybe someone of you already had this error.
In a few days I'll try with a memory PC2800 (233mhz) to see if with that works.
Thanks in advance, and let me know if someone of you already have this problem too.
Mobo: Intel 865PERL
Chipset: Intel® 865PE
CPU: Intel P4 Northwood 3.0 GHZ / 800mhz FSB
RAM: 512MB DDR-SDRAM / 200 Mhz
Video: ATI Radeon 7000VE Series TV-Out 64MB /350 Mhz
Audio: SoundM

If you have cleared the CMOS on the MBoard and not entered the screens to reset values you can get that message.

well, the bios was reseted, even the battery was pulled out, but the problem still are. am short of money to buy another module, but tomorrow a will try with a ddr233mhz of a friend. i really think the memory and the differents frequencies are the cause, maybe this old mobo not support more than 300mhz at memory.
I let you know.Mobo: Intel 865PERL

Run memtest86 to test your RAM.
Check the CPU temp in the BIOS.
And what the heck is "PC2800 (233mhz)"...did you just make that up? lol

"maybe this old mobo not support more than 300mhz at memory"
Maybe you should check things out instead of guessing.

you gonna laugh but after tryin all except to trash the mobo, I connect the floppy cable and voila! no errors, no irql, no nothing... I know (as an old computer freak) that it not make any sense but the problem is fixed.
Hope my little experience helps someone.

"If you have cleared the CMOS on the MBoard and not entered the screens to reset values you can get that message". You obviously had the floppy drive configured in the BIOS and didn't enter the BIOS to set it to none.
