Comment:

Both my modem and my onboard sound are on irq 5, when i install the modem the sound does not play right...it is all distorted..it is fine when the modem is not installed, so i am assuming it is a irq conflict. however when i go into the modem and sound card properties and try to change the irq it gives me the message this resource setting cannot be changed.
The modem is in the amr slot which there is only one of on the motherboard (K7S5A) so i cant move it.
How do i fix this problem???

OK... I am going to guess.... you have Win98?

Go into Control Panel, System, Device Manager and click on the modem, then clik on Properties or Resources, uncheck the auto box; if there is a list of different setting try clicking on each until the bottom box says there is no conflict.

If this does not do it; Double click on the Computer name at the top of the box, this will show you all the IRQ's being used. See what number is NOT used (1-15). Then follow the above BUT doubleclick the IRQ that the modem is using, a box should appear that will show you the setting the modem is assigned to. Doubleclick on the IRQ and change the number to one of the IRQ numbers not being used >>DO NOT change the memory settings<<. Close all the open boxes and reboot.

Additional info such as OS, Trade name (HP, etc.), Model.... etc., etc., would help.

Try these two things also:

Try installing them at different times, i.e. the modem before teh sound card drivers are installed and vice versa.

I am using windows ME ..as it says at the top of the message next to OS.
i can double click on computer to get the list of irq's but it will still not let me change the irq setting for the modem..says that this resource can not be modified..the same for the sound so i am unable to move either to a new irq.
